Description
The exhibition will display an exceptional selection of rare maps from the Emmie Pollard private collection.
The selection brings together 12 to 15 maps dating back to the 19th and 20th centuries. It is a unique opportunity to observe the evolution of our knowledge about the peninsula through recent history, as well as the evolution of techniques for geographical surveys.
Some of these maps will also illustrate the itinerary of the first explorers, who traveled throughout the peninsula, highlighting the close connections between these pioneering individuals and the better knowledge of the area.
This is a one-day exhibition, a unique chance to see some of the most beautiful maps of Arabia. It is open form 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Two guided tours with Emmie Pollard with take place in the afternoon.
Emmie Pollard is a private collector living for many years in Saudi Arabia. She will give a presentation about her map collection that she took years to assembly. After giving some historical background, Emmie Pollard with tell the audience some stories about each map
Emmie Pollard
Emmie Pollard was born in London, and lived in the Middle East for many years, including some time in Libya, Yemen and the UAE. She lived in Jeddah and Riyadh before moving to the Eastern Province.
Emmie Pollard has always been interested in history, belonging to Local Societies in the UK. She is always eager to learn of the history and of the characters who have been “there before”, the maps have played an important part.
