KAUST Winter Enrichment Program (WEP) 2018, chaired by Omar Knio, professor of Applied Mathematics and Computational Science, will have the theme of HUMAN-MACHINE FUTURE.

Save the date for the Winter Enrichment Program (WEP) 2018, January 14-25 2018, KAUST

 WEP 2018 will particularly focus on the following three broadly defined topics:

·      Sensing; by humans and/or machines.

·      Networks; of various kinds,, including chemical, biological, power, communication, computer, transportation and social.

·      Data; machine and/or sensor generated.

We will also explore how rapid developments in related fields are shaping a new future for both humans and machines.

The Winter Enrichment Program results from yearly selected proposals, submitted by KAUST students, faculty and the KAUST community. The WEP Committee, in charge of reviewing and selecting the proposals, is comprised of students, faculty, schoolteachers and staff representing altogether all members of the KAUST community. 

For the WEP 2018 230 proposals were submitted, which was 15% more than last year. The Speaker Selection Committee reviewed over 200 proposals and we would like to thank Prof Omar Knio, Marie-Laure Boulot, Hattan H. Ahmed, Abdullah H. Alsobahi, Jelena Bajic, Christopher A. Beaudoin, Assist. Prof Marco Canini, Robyn Collins, Amal Dokhan, Mireille Hantouche, Prof Charlotte Hauser, Assist. Prof Robert Hoehndorf, Wendy Keyes, Assoc. Prof Niveen M. Khachab, Anne Mills, Luca Passone, Assoc. Prof S. Mani Sarathy, Prof Jeff Shamma, Nicki Talbot, and Virginia Unkefer for their time and hard work.  

Everyone who submitted a proposal will be informed about the committee’s decision during the summer. Also, invitations to selected speakers will be handled by the Enrichment Office and will be sent during the summer.

WEP 2018 will be unveiled in October 24, 2017 and the final schedule of the program will be released in early November.
