Dr. Laurent Lantieri is an innovator, and was the pioneer of breast reconstruction using DIEP flap in France. He also performed the first full-face transplantation.
His career has focused on many areas in plastic surgery, including management of neurofibromatosis and plexiform neurofibromas. More recently, he has been involved in facial and extremity allotransplantation, and his team is responsible for 7 of the 28 full-face transplants done to date worldwide. In 2012 he developed a unit in Paris to focus on autologous breast reconstruction, and they currently perform over 250 skin graftings per year, and also now work on lymph node transfer and autologous fat grafting.

Professor in Plastic Surgery at Assistance Publique Hopitaux de Paris and Head of the Department of Plastic Surgery at Georges Pompidou Hospital at Paris Descartes University, he did his medical school at Paris Descartes University, followed by his surgical residency. He then did a fellowship at Washington University.
He became a professor in 2002 and department head in 2003. His career has focused on many areas in plastic surgery, including management of neurofibromatosis and plexiform neurofibromas. More recently, he has been involved in facial and extremity allotransplantation, and his team is responsible for 7 of the 28 full-face transplants done to date worldwide. In 2012 he developed a unit in Paris to focus on autologous breast reconstruction, and they currently perform over 250 free flaps per year, and also now work on lymph node transfer and autologous fat grafting.
He has published over 100 peer reviewed book chapters, and received numerous awards, including the Legion d’Honneur in 2012 to recognize his contributions.
