Lecture by Soren-Peter Olesen, CEO of the Danish National Research Foundation and Professor of Molecular Cardiology and Membrane Proteins at the University of Copenhagen.
ABOUT THIS LECTURE
Professor Olesen was trained as a medical doctor and an electronics engineer. For many years, he ran a large research group at the University of Copenhagen Medical School focused on the membrane proteins responsible for the fast electric signaling in the heart, muscle, and brain. Prof. Olesen will discuss how he has been involved in starting up and developing several pharma and device companies as cofounder, CEO, scientific director, and board member. He will discuss the role of national (the Danish National Research Foundation) and private funding agencies (the Carlsberg Foundation) in shaping science policy and the role of basic science in developing start-up companies.
