Description
A science show for all audiences
Dr. Bunhead follows the history of 35 trillion cells made from 7 octillion atoms harvested from millions of stars across our galaxy that will be working together to give this talk. What are we made of? How do we juggle these atoms to stay healthy and prevent illness arising? What happens when our body's atomic acrobatics goes wrong? Is it possible to talk about medicine and still make things explode on stage? The research we do today is shaping the health-future we leave our children tomorrow. Exploring the past, present and future of medicine this talk explores how personalized medicine has turned full circle from its place at the centre of ancient systems of whole-person healthcare to the promises of cutting edge genetics, robotics and AI systems. Can personalized potions really put the 'me' back in medicine? Will our focus on progress blind us to what worked in the past? As the illness continues to outstrip cures and the hunt for profit guides the direction of research we need to find alternatives to popping pills for every ill. Promoting prevention over cure, well-being awareness could and other person-centered approaches could lighten the spiraling costs of global healthcare.
