EVENT DESCRIPTION
The Science Museum holds what is widely regarded as the largest and the finest museum collection relating to medicine in the world. In November 2019, this collection went on display at the Science Museum in London in the largest space dedicated to Medicine internationally. Using the historic objects collected by Henry Wellcome as well as the Science Museum’s own medical collections, these spectacular new galleries will provide perspective into the importance of treating each unique individual for their good health and wellbeing. Lead Curator and Keeper of Medicine Natasha McEnroe will capture the essence of this series of new galleries, examining how important milestones in our search for individualized health have altered over time. Throughout history, medical practitioners and scientists have examined the human body in an attempt to understand its workings and its dysfunctions. Through experiment, imagery and measuring the body, important understanding and improvements to health care have been reached. Technological advances such as X-ray crystallography allowed scientists to understand the smallest molecules that form us all. Communicating public health issues and examining places of care where the individual can be best supervised are issues for the global community. This talk will examine personalized medicine, examining closely how each person has a unique health history, how to best treat them, and how our attitudes have changed over the centuries.
THE KEYNOTE LECTURE SERIES
The keynote lectures are signature events taking place as part of a series of main lectures aligned with the program’s theme. Since 2010, +150 eminent international guest speakers, Nobel laureates, entrepreneurs, academics and distinguished local and regional leaders and decision-makers have addressed the audience.

Natasha McEnroe
Natasha McEnroe is the Keeper of Medicine at the Science Museum in London. Her previous post was Director of the Florence Nightingale Museum, before this, she was Museum Manager of the Grant Museum of Zoology and Comparative Anatomy, and Curator of the Galton Collection at University College London. She has been Curator of Dr. Johnson’s House in London’s Fleet Street and has also worked for the National Trust and the Victoria & Albert Museum. Natasha was co-editor of The Hospital in the Oatfield – The Art of Nursing in the First World War (2014); The Tyranny of Treatment: Samuel Johnson, His Friends and Georgian Medicine (2003); and editor of Medicine: An Imperfect Science(2019) and co-editor of The Medicine Cabinet(2019). Her research interests focus on 18th and 19th-century medical humanities. Natasha is a Freeman of The Worshipful Company of Barbers.
