Art of the Fugue, BWV 1080
CS PhD Candidate, Lukas Larisch, an accomplished and talented musician, will perform selections from Johann Sebastian Bach’s, monumental work, Art of the Fugue, on the grand piano in our Auditorium. A simple example of a fugue is the nursery rhyme, Frère Jacques, where the initial subject recurs frequently throughout the song. Bach wrote these 14 fugues and four canons based on a single theme:
Art of the Fugue proved to be Bach’s final work where he was at the pinnacle of his experimentation with the monothematic structure.
The recital will be introduced by Prof. Gabriel Wittum.
This event is organized by the Office of the Arts and the Office of Enrichment Programs.
