Where: Bldg. 20, Rehearsal Room
Description
About this event - four mandatory sessions plus a perfomance:
This course will train a Festival Chorus for a short, on-campus performance during WEP 2018. The Festival Chorus will be prepared in four evening rehearsals by guest choral conductor, Dr. John Perkins. The program will include some Arabic music and a world premiere by NY-based composer, Mavis Pan, commissioned for the occasion.
Because of the limited preparation time available, prior choral experience is strongly recommended. Attendance is required at all four evening rehearsals and at the Short Concert on Stage – Festival Chorus on Wednesday, January 24 at 5:00 pm in the Auditorium (building 20).
In addition, the participants might get a chance to take part in the choral festival in Dubai "ChoirFest Middle East 2018" on Friday and Saturday, March 16 and 17, 2018. For the Dubai event, as far as travel and hotel expenses are concerned, members of the Festival Chorus will support themselves. The Office of the Arts will finance the ChoirFest ME registration fee for each participant. ChoirFestME takes place on a Friday and Saturday, so there is no need to take leave days to participate.
Festival Chorus members may opt to participate in the WEP rehearsals and performance only, but attendance at the Festival Chorus rehearsals and performance is a pre-requisite for participation at ChoirFest ME.
**This Festival Chorus is distinct from the KAUST Community Chorus under the Office of the Arts. The Community Chorus does not presume prior training, rehearses throughout the fall and spring semesters, and performs each semester in KAUST Ensemble Concerts.
Resources
