Description
Story Maps serves as a tool to facilitate the presentation of projects with spatial or geographical context. It enables the user to effectively tell his/her story by combining narration with images and multimedia content via geographical maps.
This 2-day workshop caters as an introduction to Story Maps. Attendees will learn how to create and communicate their stories using Story Maps. Readily available templates will be utilized through a web application. Specifically, the story of the Integrated Ocean Process Lab hosted by the Red Sea Research Center is used as an example.
The goal of the workshop is that the participants learn how to use ArcGIS Online in order to create their Story Map. The workshop will start with an introduction on ArcGIS and Story Maps. Then we continue with an hands-on session where participants use ArcGIS Online to create a Story Map. Participants are encouraged to bring their own data, photos, videos, but they can also use the Red Sea Research data if needed. Participants will be able to add their own photos or videos to the Story Maps either through a USB drive, or use photos published on Flickr or Google Photos. GPS coordinates can additionally be added using a csv, Excel spreadsheet or entered manually.
Participants will need to sign up for a free ArcGIS online trial prior to the workshop. We will also use Google Classroom to distribute material, so participants need to have a Google account.
