Description
Join us for the annual Alumni Lecture Series, a highlight in the University’s event calendar!
We welcome the return to KAUST of five alumni who’ll present highlights from their work in business, research, academia, industry and innovation.
Sultan Safin's presentation, National food: fast and global, tells the story of how he established Tubatay, a national fast food chain in Russia and CIS which has rapidly grown into 17 halal food retail outlets (with 9 more in development) with 14 franchisees.
Lazlo Toth's presentation, Optomechanics: a route to the ultimate limits of sensing, is based on his current research, published in Nature, and will provide insight into state-of-the-art precision measurements and quantum technologies.
Hanan Alshehri's presentation, The New World of Fintech, will give an insight to digital assets, specifically cryptocurrencies and programs that provide digital financial advice, also known as robo-advisors.
Fernando Cagua's presentation Disentangling Ecological Networks, presents examples from his research to show how networks can help to find solutions to the problems global ecosystems face. Animal movements, pollination, social behaviors, and food webs are a few examples of nature’s numerous networks. In particular, his presentation will describe how Network Theory is now one of the most promising fields in ecology.
Hussain Shibli's WEP presentation Solar Energy Resource Assessment will focus on alternative energy sources, including nuclear and renewable energy, and present an overview of the Kingdom’s efforts to quantify the available solar energy. With Saudi Arabia planning to generate 9.5 GW of electricity from renewable sources by 2022, growing to 54 GW by 2040, Hussain’s presentation will shine a light on the work going into these objectives.
