Description
Drawing on firm roots in Middle Eastern music and Flamenco, Haddad's compositions take listeners on a journey through Andalusia and the Middle East, conveying a sonic experience that can only be described as his own.
The Ensemble will play original compositions by oud player and founder, Attab Haddad, and use their varying influences to create a sound that is unique to the band. In this instance, they will appear as a quartet: Attab Haddad - oud, Philippe Barnes - flute, Antonio Romero - percussion long-time collaborator, composer, and Flamenco guitarist, Ramon Ruiz. Haddad blends Flamenco, Jazz and Middle Eastern influences to create expressive and magnetic new music.
The Ensemble released their first CD, Days Distinctive, on Weave Records to a great response from critics. Written and produced by Haddad, Days Distinctive illuminates the oud's versatility outside its traditional role. His players are cast across a diverse musical landscape including Flamenco, Jazz, Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, and Contemporary music naturally combining a modern evolution of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern instrumental music. Improvisation is of central importance against a backdrop of Middle Eastern maqams (modes) and Flamenco rhythms; a prevailing Jazz ethos allows each musician a great deal of creative freedom.
