City of the Future
Today, 54% of the world’s population lives in urban areas; a proportion that the UN expects to increase to 66% by 2050, with close to 90% of the increase concentrated in Asia and Africa. By necessity, the city of the future should be sustainable, maximize resource-use efficiency, and draw from renewable sources to supply energy, food, and water for all. These questions bring many uncertainties but one key certainty: science and technology will be essential to bring the city of the future to life.
