Description
In keeping with our principal WEP theme of light we are presenting a session of "Movies @ WEP" featuring a wide array of classic and contemporary movies. Sortie d'Usine (1895) by Louis Lumiere: Also known as Employees Leaving the Lumire Factory and Exiting the Factory, this 46-seconds movie is a 1895 French black-and-white silent documentary directed and produced by Louis Lumire. This movie is often referred to as the first real motion picture ever made. The Artist (2011) by Michel Hazanavicius: The story takes place in Hollywood, between 1927 and 1932, and focuses on the relationship of an older silent film star and a rising young actress as silent cinema falls out of fashion and is replaced by the "talkies". "The Artist" received highly positive reviews from critics and won many accolades. Jean Dujardin won the Best Actor Award at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival, where the film premiered. The film was nominated for six Golden Globes, the most of any 2011 film. This movie is a beautiful tribute to the black-and-white silent films.WEP Team
