Where: Vizualisation Lab
Description
This screening is part of our session of "Movies @ WEP" featuring a wide array of classic and contemporary movies. Here is a great opportunity to enjoy a classic film, accompanied by a fascinating science discussion related to the film’s theme Big Data. Science to Watch is an ongoing series presented by Idoia Galan and Prof. Enzo Di Fabrizio, with guest speaker Prof. Bernard Ghanem. Minority Report (2002) is a thriller film directed by Steven Spielberg with a complex murder plot. In a future where police unit is able to arrest people before they commit their crimes, a policeman is himself accused of a future murder. The movie is a complex murder plot that addresses ethical issues between technology and legality. In the film there is a widespread exhibition of big data applications from systematic facial recognition to personalized adds.Enzo Di Fabrizio
Prof Di Fabrizio conducts an interdisciplinary activity between physics and biology and nanomedicine that includes basic and applied research in nanotechnology. At KAUST he is dedicated to setting up a new lab for Molecular Sensing and Imaging. His main interests concern the study of material and macro molecules at nanoscale, their structure and function, through novel spectroscopy approaches mediated by nanostructures. In particular the activity includes: nanofabrication of plasmonic devices, optical tweezers based microscopy (applied to biophysics and nanomedicine), Raman spectroscopy for single molecules detection through scanning probe, design and fabrication of microfluidics nano-devices dedicated to cellomics and drug delivery, proteomic, biophotonic and TEM imaging.
