Description
In keeping with our principal WEP theme of light we are presenting a session of "Movies @ WEP" featuring a wide array of classic and contemporary movies. I, Robot (2004): In 2020, an international robot company, United States Robotics (U.S.R), was created, and became known for mass-producing anthropomorphic robots for widespread use as servants for various public services. They are programmed with the Three Laws of Robotics directives: First Law: A robot must never harm a human being or, through inaction, allow any human to come to harm. Second Law: A robot must obey the orders given to them by human beings, except where such orders violate the First Law. Third Law: A robot must protect its own existence unless this violates the First or Second Laws. This is the story of "robotophobic" Chicago Police Detective Del Spooner's (Will Smith) investigation into the murder of Dr. Alfred Lanning, who works at U.S. Robotics, in which a robot, Sonny, appears to be implicated, even though that would mean the robot had violated the Three Laws of Robotics, which is apparently impossible... The movie is inspired by Isaac Asimov's short-story collection of the same name.WEP Team
