Description
This lecture is a fasinating look at creativity and how it relates to modern cities. The session will focus on cities, their social, economic and cultural dynamics, and the different expressions of creativity that can emerge to shape a city into a collaborative and innovative center. The idea that cities are the generators of national economies has contributed to a growing interest in the contribution that cities can make to the national welfare and to economic competitiveness in particular. Cities matter to business in the knowledge economy because they are the places that offer organizations access to highly skilled workers and the opportunity to innovate and exchange ideas. However in the present day human talent, motivations, imagination and creativity are replacing location, natural resources and market access as urban resources. Collaboration involves having a shared purpose, high-level of commitment, flexibility, trust, adaptation to change and clarity of objectives. The capacity to solve problems or open new possibilities collaboratively among different actors is increasingly important. Many creative city strategies have focused on providing the spaces, physical and social environments, to stimulate the production of creative contents and communities, the start-up of value added economic activities and the regeneration of degraded urban areas.Dora Dos Santos
