Description
What do they measure? What should they measure? What can they measure? : The realities of globalisation in Higher Education As a new University, KAUST has not yet taken part in the race for rankings, such as those published by Times Higher Education, US News and World Report on Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU, first published by Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China). With its six objective indicators used to rank universities, ARWU is considered by many to be the fairest and best ranking system in the world. In this lecture, we will hear about the science and art of ranking universities – why such rankings are important, what they accomplish and if KAUST should seek to be ranked. The content of this lecture should interest administrators, faculty members, postdocs, students and a broad swath of community members. It might also attract students and teachers from The KAUST Schools as the ranking of universities has wide impact on students, teachers, and faculty members at all levels.Philip Altbach
