DUE TO POPULAR DEMAND THIS WORKSHOP HAS BEEN ADDED. It is a repeat of WEP475A. Please only register for WEP475A or WEP475B. As research funding is harder to come by and people’s attention span is getting shorter, it has become more important to create engaging visuals to effectively communicate your research ideas and discoveries. In this workshop, you will learn the essential techniques to create engaging visuals for your publications, proposals, presentations, and website. You will be exposed to professional computer graphics tools such as Adobe Photoshop and Maxon Cinema 4D, and learn how to use them efficiently for your research. The workshop will includes 2 sections: Section 1: Creating 2D illustrations with Adobe Illustrator and learning basic image editing techniques with Adobe Photoshop. Section 2: Creating 3D illustrations and animations with Maxon Cinema 4D and learning basic compositing techniques with Adobe After Effects.Yan Liang
University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) Yan Liang is a scientific illustrator and animator. To him, science is beautiful and full of wonders, especially at the small scale that cannot be seen by the naked eye. After receiving his doctoral degree in materials science from the University of Minnesota in 2011, he started a career where he combines his scientific knowledge and artistic skills to visualize the beauty of science. Yan has worked with over 30 research groups in the world, including groups from Harvard, MIT, Cornell, Stanford, and Caltech. His works have been published on covers of many scientific journals including Science, Nature Biotechnology, Nature Chemical Biology, PNAS, Nano Letters, Trends in Biotechnology, and Advanced Materials.
