Description
Mechatronics is an interdisciplinary field of engineering dealing with the design of systems that include the combination of mechanical engineering, electronics, control engineering, and computer science. Originally, mechatronics just included mechanics and electronics. However, as technical systems become more and more complex it has been updated to include more technical areas. Many examples of such systems include: home appliances, automotive engineering, robots, aerial vehicles, underwater vehicles, packing machines, etc. In this course we are particularly interested in this kind of systems. The first part of the course is an introduction to mechatronic systems. The second part deals with the context of these systems, where the related challenging control problems are highlighted. The third and main part deals with control of mechatronic systems. Their control schemes are ranging from classical, like PID control, to the most advanced controllers such as adaptive, predictive, and robust control. All the presented control approaches will be illustrated through simulation or real- time experiments of different case studies of mechatronic systems. Ahmed CHEMORI received his MSc and PhD degrees respectively in 2001 and 2005, both in automatic control from the Grenoble Institute of Technology. He has been a Post-doctoral fellow with the Automatic control laboratory of Grenoble in 2006. He is currently a tenured research scientist in Automation and Robotics at the Montpellier Laboratory of Informatics, Robotics, and Micro-electronics. His research interests include nonlinear, adaptive and predictive control and their applications in humanoid robotics, underactuated systems, parallel robots, and underwater vehicles.
